So What Can You Do?
The best way to support your child in The Gut Bug Challenge is to encourage better choices and nudge healthier habits. The documents below gives some ideas of how to engage your children with the Phyte Cards. The Battle is best engaged with over a 21 day period as that is a habit forming length of time, but can be used for any length of time or revisited.
Food Detectives
There is also a new NHS food scanner app, that will suggest healthier alternatives.

Encourage your children to become curious about the ingredients in the foods they eat. The free Change4Life ‘Food Scanner’ app brings food labels to life and can be downloaded for free from the App store or Google Play and has already been used by more than 4 million people to scan millions of products.

What's a portion size? What counts as a blast?
One of the best resources we have found has come from the British Nutritional Foundation, they have produced two great visuals, one that covers portion size and the other introduces the concept of Try, Swap and Change. We fully support their work as it aligns to our goals to help children and families make better choices and nudge healthier habits. Don't forget that a portion size for a child when it talks about a handful is it's their handful and for an adult it's your handful.
Family Resources
We use the Phyte Cards, not only for the traditional use of Phyting your opponent with the best Phyto Power, we also use them in meal planning, and discussing what foods are contained in a meal that we are eating. The downloadable pdf gives a few more ideas of how you can engage your children in discussions around food.
